Welcome Message Church Staff How to find us How to join Oakville Governing Boards History of Oakville Church

To be a Christian means being part of a church family. Though our salvation is not dependent on being on the membership rolls of a church, the Bible makes it clear that our Christian faith and life involves participating in a community of faith.

Joining in the membership of a Christian Church and participating in its ministry is the primary way we live out our faith and show our commitment to Christ and His church.

Before joining Oakville Presbyterian Church, potential members attend our New Member Orientation, which covers the basics of the Christian faith, the structure and beliefs of the Presbyterian denomination, and the unique identity and ministry of Oakville Church. The orientation is typically three sessions of about 2 hours each. Of course, in this short of time, we will only touch the surface of these topics. However, it will provide a good introduction into who we are as a church, what we believe, and the life and ministry we are called to.

Even if you do not intend to join in membership, you are still welcome to participate in the New Member Orientation.

The orientation is scheduled at a time that best fits the schedules of those who are interested.

Please check church events for an upcoming New Member Orientation.

Please let us know of your interest in the New Member Orientation by completing the form at contact us or by E-mail. Be sure to include your mailing address so we can add you to our mailing list.

What is required of members?

All that is required of members is to:

  • Confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  • Promise to follow Christ and Christ's example for living
  • Commit to attend church and to become involved in its work

In addition, there is the promise to live a Christian life and to seek and accept God's forgiveness when we fail. Members have a commitment to grow in the knowledge of and commitment to this faith.

Membership is an adventure with God to live a different kind of life.

Are there other requirements of membership?

We believe every Christian has a responsibility before God to use our time, talent, and resources, not only in the church but in common life in the service of God. We are ambassadors who carry a message wherever we go and servants of God in whatever we are doing with our lives in the world.

How do I join as an official member?

There are three ways to become a member of Oakville Presbyterian Church:

·         By confession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (and readiness to be baptized if you have not been already).

·         By reaffirmation of faith (for those who are not currently an active church member, but have been in the past) or

·         By transfer of church membership from another church.

New members are typically received into the family of faith the Sunday following the last session of the New Member Orientation.
