Christian Education Facilities Fellowship Missions Outreach Music & Worship

The Facilities Ministry Team oversees the maintenance and repair of the physical buildings and grounds of Oakville Presbyterian Church. The ministry team welcomes participation by members with knowledge or expertise in building and grounds management and maintenance. Volunteers are also recruited on a seasonal basis for the fall and spring clean-up.

Phase One [Fellowship Hall expansion, temporary office space, and unfinished basement] is pretty much complete. Our thanks to all who helped make this dream a reality.

John and Bonny Bowens have put in countless hours and back-breaking work into the landscaping and sprinkler system. We are deeply appreciative for all of their work in “beautifying” the grounds around the church and manse. Their labor will  continue to bear much fruit in the months and years to come. Our thanks also to Dale Kinsman for his help and the use of his equipment.

The exterior of the west wall of the sanctuary as well as the west and south side of the steeple above the roof was resided in early June.  This was to prevent further water damage to the building.

The Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall got a fresh coat of paint in July. The windows in the Sanctuary will be replaced in September.  We will also be pouring a patio off the southwest corner of the expanded Fellowship Hall. We are looking for volunteers for this. If you would like to help with this project, let us know.

The planned expansion is a three phase project outlined below.

Phase 1

Expand the Fellowship Hall to the west, nearly doubling the space. The expanded portion will include a vaulted ceiling, as well as an unfinished basement that will connect to the current Sanctuary basement and handicap ramp.

Add a room between the Fellowship Hall expansion and the south wall of the Sanctuary. This room will serve as a temporary office and then will become bathrooms during Phase III.

Phase II

The south interior wall of the Sanctuary will be removed after the current church office is vacated. The stage area will then move back 12 feet against the south wall of the Sanctuary building. Double doors will be installed between the Sanctuary and corridor to the Fellowship Hall. Four more rows of pews will be added. Worship services will be held in the expanded Fellowship Hall while the Sanctuary is being remodeled.

Phase III

The kitchen will be remodeled and expanded and offices added to the south end of the Fellowship Hall. The new kitchen is significantly bigger; it will include two sinks, stoves, ovens, and refrigerators, as well as a dishwasher. More storage space will be added as well.

After discussion, the congregation voted to proceed with the building plans and to authorize Session to begin Phase I as soon as 90% of the funds for phase I are in hand and/or pledged. The same process will be adhered to for each phase.

Phase II was completed in February 2006.
