The Christian Education Ministry Team oversees the Adult and Youth Education Programs at Oakville. The Christian education of our children, youth, and adults is a critical component of our life as a community.
At Oakville Presbyterian we provide educational opportunities for all age groups. We emphasize Scripture in all of our programs, and we seek to better understand God's word and apply it to our lives. The ministry team seeks volunteers to help teach both adult and youth classes.
Programs include:
Sunday School
Sunday school classes are offered for children age 5 through grade 12 from the third Sunday in September through the second Sunday in June. Classes are held in the basement of the church. Classes run from 9:45 am to 10:45 am. Classes are run by volunteers.
Adult Sunday School
Adult Sunday School classes begin at 9:45 am and end at 10:45 am. Classes are held in the Fellowship Hall. Adult Sunday school classes are frequently offered in a series, pertaining to a particular topic of study. A program may be organized over a four or five week period of study. However, unless otherwise noted, we invite and encourage people to attend any individual session as they are able since each session is normally self-contained as well as part of the larger series. On occasion, there are also one-time lecture and workshop events.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible school is usually offered the third week of June and runs Tuesday through Friday. Each year features a new theme. A variety of activities are offered throughout the week, including woodworking, games, skits, as well as Bible lessons and much more. The week is concluded with a country style picnic, barbecue, and program by the children.
Confirmation
Confirmation is the process by which our youth in grades 7 through 12 become members of the church. Confirmation is generally held each year. The confirmation process incorporates elements of service, worship, leadership, and education over a three-to-four-month time period, culminating with a retreat to the coast and ultimately the youth joining the church.
